Wordless Wednesday: Texas' state flower in bloom

  1. I've heard of Texas bluebonnets, but this is the first picture I've seen. Are they a kind of lupine?

  2. People who have never seen the Texas roadsides in bloom in the spring probably can't picture vast expanses of flowers carpeting all the great country roads that oil money built. In the case of the bluebonnets, it would be vast expanses of blue, but with some red thrown in usually from the Indian Paintbrush. I miss it.

    1. It is quite a sight, Hannah. I haven't actually been out along the roadways to look this year, but I'm told it won't be a particularly good year for our famous wildflowers. Even in an off-year though they are still beautiful. The ones in my picture are from my wildflower patch in my backyard.

  3. Lovely photo Dorothy. We had lots last year, but there's only one little seedling growing this year.

    1. I'm hearing that it's not that good a year for bluebonnet blooms and so far that's been true in my yard.
