There are certain butterflies that fly throughout the winter here, at least during mild winters as we are having now. The Red Admiral is one of them. I photographed this one just last Sunday as it was sipping from my purple trailing lantana, a butterfly favorite.
We often have lots of Red Admirals in summer. I've thought of planting some false nettle to encourage more of them. I like how they land on your shirt to suck the sweat from your shirt.
Lucky you to still see butterflies in your garden. Ours are long gone or in hibernation mode. Enjoy!

DeleteI wonder if they like violas - that's all I have blooming right now. I didn't realize we have this butterfly in our area. I'll be on the lookout!
DeleteI think they will like anything that is blooming just now, Jayne.

ReplyDeleteCool! I've never had one do that, but they are really neat butterflies. Fun to watch and photograph.
