Wordless Wednesday: Gray Hairstreak on almond verbena blossom

  1. Congrats on getting a little rain! I'm praying that we'll get some here too sometime soon...it really is dire. There are trees stressed and dying throughout the neighborhood. I'd love to add some almond verbena to the garden but at this point I'm wondering if this dry climate is our new normal...more xeric plants may be in order.

  2. Almond verbena is native to the area and seems to handle the drought pretty well, Cat. This is my first year with it and it has done very well for me, really with just a minimum of care, and the butterflies and bees do love it!

  3. Sweet. I just learned about almond verbena, would love to have some but we're a bit too far north.

  4. I highly recommend to anyone who is in an appropriate area for it, Kathleen. The scent is just heavenly and it is always full of blooms.
