Wordless Wednesday: Shall we dance?

  1. What a lovely photo. They look so sweet together.

I'm so glad that you labeled this butterfly as I'm just beginning to learn how to identify them. My eyes are not good enough to "see" them as they flit about so I have to photograph them and then look them up on the Internet. I've seen the Gulf Fritillary in my garden on prairie verbena.

  2. I do a lot of butterfly photography for the same reason - I just can't see their field marks as they flit around. I have found John and Gloria Tveten's field guide "Butterflies of Houston and Southeast Texas" to be absolutely invaluable in helping me to identify the butterflies and their larvae in my garden.

  3. PS Our gulf frittilaries are still laying eggs on the passionvine and we've got caterpillars too. You think it portends a warm winter?

  4. Well, the National Weather Service says we are going to have a warm and dry winter, Kathleen, because of La Nina. Maybe the Fritillaries agree! I still have caterpillars on my passionvine, too.
