Wordless Wednesday: The bumble

  1. Thanks for ID. We've been seeing bumbles the last week and I wondered.

    And thanks for your suggestion for our escapee visitor. I had hoped he was a monk parakeet--we knew them from Miami and I know they survive in Chicago so there would be hope for the winter. But we finally found a match for his markings as a pied-budgie. And his future is in doubt. But I'm going to hope for the best.

  2. We had a pair of Monk Parakeets in our neighborhood for a couple of years a few years back, but they finally disappeared. I thought your bird looked somewhat like them. Monks have really colonized in all sections the country, even in New York City. There are some in Houston, too, but not as many, I think, as there are in Austin. They are fascinating birds, even though they are an invasive species, and great fun to watch. I'm not familiar with Pied Budgerigars but I wish your little visitor well.
