Though a hard core Northerner, I did once spend a summer on a farm where there was cotton growing. I was struck by the beautiful flowers, which were white and pink.
They start out white and become pink and finally red as they age. I planted a few cotton seeds in a bed in my veggie garden last year as a tribute to my father who was a cotton farmer. Three of the plants survived the winter and last spring I moved them to a permanent location and now one of the plants is blooming! The structure of the bloom makes clear the plant's kinship to the hibiscus family.
