I have planted at least four other varieties. So far the swamp milkweed has firmly taken root.Dr Photo Motohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14088809328381690898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2275431955885463071.post-26395973391189074402012-11-21T00:17:10.585-06:002012-11-21T00:17:10.585-06:00I bought one mildweed from Home Depot--found a cat...I bought one mildweed from Home Depot--found a caterpillar but the plant was drying from lack of water--raced to HD bought 3 more--soon I had 20 caterpillars and those babies can eat a smallish plant in a day! It has been a race to keep a continuing parade of caterpillars small and larger (and getting bigger each day) well fed. I discourage planting just one plant unless you are willing to 1) get more plants or 2) take them to a place where there is LOTS of milkweed. Just stop laying those eggs and migrate--will you!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2275431955885463071.post-12350459552877652172011-04-26T23:38:14.013-05:002011-04-26T23:38:14.013-05:00great shots. i have lots of milkweed happening in ...great shots. i have lots of milkweed happening in my little garden, and can't wait for some caterpillars. i would be grateful just to see some eggs! lucky you!Laguna Dirthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00876013369438431143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2275431955885463071.post-82742918558352540152011-04-25T15:27:00.469-05:002011-04-25T15:27:00.469-05:00I was surprised that all my milkweed made it throu...I was surprised that all my milkweed made it through the winter, Kathleen. I think it was probably down to the microclimate in which they were planted and the heavy mulch. I'm just glad they made it. I did buy a couple of pots from the nursery this spring though before my old plants got big enough to help the butterflies.Dorothy Bordershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12441731296027227394noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2275431955885463071.post-53057038983240223702011-04-25T12:49:24.518-05:002011-04-25T12:49:24.518-05:00Thanks for posting this.
